Kaduna police arrest six people over theft of N6.2 million petrol tanker
The Kaduna State Police Command has detained six individuals in connection with the theft of a tanker carrying 40,000 liters of petroleum products worth N6.2 million in the state.
The state command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Jalige, made this known to the newsmen in a statement released on Monday.
According to Jalige, on April 19, 2022, Bakura Bukar of Mararaban Jos, Kaduna, filed a complaint with the state command alleging that on April 16, 2022, he entrusted his truck with number plate No BAM 02 XA, loaded with 40,000 litres of petrol valued at N6.2 million, to his driver for delivery from Lagos to Kaduna.
He stated that after the truck broke down owing to flat tyres, three unidentified persons in a Sedan car assaulted the driver and the motor boy before fleeing with the truck to an unknown place.
According to Jalige, the Commissioner of Police ordered a full-scale inquiry into the case based on the strength of the allegations, and detectives leaped into action to catch the perpetrators.
According to him, the team acted on intelligence and was successful in apprehending three suspects in connection with the crimes: Habibu Mohammed, Halilu Mohammed, and Isa Mohammed.
Further inquiry revealed that the stolen materials were disposed of at two filling stations, he added.
“The operatives pushed the process of investigation further and also recovered the operational vehicle of the criminals, one (1) Jackknife and the stolen fuel truck as well as the PMS product.
“Meanwhile, the suspects have since confessed to have been a syndicate that is notorious for such acts and are currently assisting the process of investigation.
“They will all be charged to court on completion of the same. However a deliberate effort by the Command is geared towards apprehending all the remaining syndicate members as well as their collaborators if any to prevent future occurrence,” he added.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Yekini Ayoku has urged the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association (PTD) to use the Command’s authorized emergency contacts to report any tanker breakdown on the road so that a nearby police formation can be summoned for security coverage throughout the repair period.
