Tinubu/Shettima destined to rule Nigeria – Smart Adeyemi

Smart Adeyemi loses APC Senatorial ticket to former House of Reps member

Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC, Kogi West) says God has ordained presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his vice, Kashim Shettima to rule Nigeria.

Speaking when he appeared on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, Adeyemi said he is campaigning for Tinubu and Shettima because it is the will of God for the duo to rule the country in 2023.

He disclosed that he is not against Muslim-Muslim ticket and strongly believed in the capacity of the party to rule the country.

He said, “I am campaigning for Tinubu and Shettima because if you ask me, may be it’s the will of God that these two men should come this time around. I have no quarrel about it and I believe in them being able to pilot the affairs of our nation to a higher level.

2023: Atiku can not be trusted

“The issue of same faith ticket is coming after the flag bearer of the APC, Bola Tinubu, nominated Kashim Shettima, who happens to be a Muslim, as his vice. This nomination did not sit well with Nigerians who have accused the APC of moves to relegate Christians, a claim repeatedly dismissed by the party’s leadership.”

Keyamo accuses Peter Obi of being a 'carpet-bagger' outside South-East, trojan horse for Atiku

However, Adeyemi is seeking an amendment to the Electoral Act, 2022 to ban political parties from fielding same-faith presidential ticket to avoid a repeat of Tinubu-Shettima scenario in the future.

“My fear for Nigeria is that may be unlike privileged people, I don’t have another passport. I have only one passport and don’t have citizenship of another country. God forbid, if there is problem in this country, there is no where I can run to,” he added.

2023: Atiku will get 65% of Benue’s votes despite Ortom’s support for Wike, says party chieftain

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) says the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will get 65 per cent of Benue State votes.

In an interview, Mr Chila, a grassroots mobiliser,  said despite Governor Samuel Ortom’s support for his Rivers counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike, in the power tussle within the PDP, Mr Abubakar would garner 65 per cent of the state votes.

Mr Ortom had said unless Mr Wike was appeased, PDP would risk losing the state votes during the 2023 presidential election.

However, Mr Chila said regardless of whatever action Mr Ortom would take during next year’s general elections, PDP and its presidential candidate would win elections in the state.

He said that from 1999 to date, PDP has become very entrenched in Benue.

He added that because PDP National chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, is from Benue, it made it imperative that nothing could change the voting pattern in the state.

2023: Atiku can not be trusted

“You may wish to know that my governor, Ortom, is also a candidate for the senatorial election in next year’s election. Interestingly, the presidential election and that of the National Assembly come up on the same day.

“So, with Gov. Ortom’s fate tied to that of Vice President Atiku Abubakar, it is impossible for PDP to get less than 65 per cent of the state’s total votes cast.

“And with our son, Dr Ayu as the national chairman, PDP has the bragging rights for the maximum votes from Benue State,” Mr Chila noted.

Mr Chila, who contested the party’s ticket for the Kwande/Ushongo federal constituency, explained that being a predominantly agrarian state with more population in the rural communities, no other political party could achieve rural penetration more than PDP.

He expressed confidence that with the security and economic challenges facing the country, including Benue, the state would vote for Mr Abubakar, who has the capacity to address the challenges.

Keyamo accuses Peter Obi of being a 'carpet-bagger' outside South-East, trojan horse for Atiku

“We need stability, and security, and Benue State voters know that the only man that can pull Nigeria back from the precipice is Abubakar.

“The former Vice President is not coming to the presidency as a learner but will bring his wealth of experience to bear on national reconstruction.”

On the calls by some PDP stakeholders for Mr Ayu to resign, Mr Chila said those making the calls were either mistaken or mischievous, saying Mr Ayu emerged through a foolproof process that was not controversial.

He said telling Mr Ayu to quit when he had not committed any impeachable offence amounts to questioning the very rudiments of democracy.

“Ayu has not committed any offence. Therefore, anybody asking him to leave office is indirectly calling for the proscription of PDP, which is not attainable in a democracy.

“People should look beyond Ayu as an individual, he represents that party on account of the mandate freely given to him.

Umahi emerges APC senatorial candidate in fresh primary despite court dismissal

“If I may add, what would be the compensation for North-Central if Ayu resigns?

“The North-Central has been making sacrifices for the growth and stability of PDP.

“Do we have to wait for 24 years before being considered for the presidential ticket, why must we throw away the consolation prize of national chairman?” Mr Chila asked.

Ruckus as APC governors threaten to sabotage Tinubu presidential ambition

The newly released presidential campaign council list of the All Progressives Congress seems to be creating bad blood among stakeholders in the party.

So grave are the grievances and dissatisfaction spurred by the constitution of the campaign council that governors elected on the platform of the ruling party are now up in arms and are threatening to work against the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu.

The grouses of the governors range from being relegated to the background in the campaign affairs to ignoring those they submitted their names as the people who will represent their various states, PREMIUMTIMES REPORTS.

On Saturday, James Faleke, Secretary to the APC campaign council, announced the constitution of the campaign council, listing 422 members, including many who are to work at the regional and state levels for Tinubu and his running mate Kashim Shettima’s success in the 2023 presidential election.

Before then, the party’s leadership had contacted the governors through the PGF secretariat to nominate individuals in their respective states to be members of the presidential campaign council, sources said. The governors were requested to nominate five persons each.

The governors were however stunned to see that l Tinubu and the party ignored their nominations and replaced them with others from their respective states without consulting them.

2023: Atiku can not be trusted

Top officials in the party disclosed that the governors had been inundating the PGF chairman and governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu; the APC chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and the Director-General of the PGF secretariat with complaints over the constitution of the campaign council.

In one instance, the officials said Cross River Governor Ben Ayade vowed not to participate in campaigning for the presidential candidate “since the party leaders have proven to know more than him in his state.”

The governor had submitted names of individuals he believed would effectively mobilise voters for the presidential candidate in Cross River but he was surprised that none of the persons he nominated were named by the party. Ayade had contested to be the presidential candidate of the party and lost.

“The governor of Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, is complaining that he submitted five names but he had seen only one appearance on the list,” said an insider who asked not to be named because he is not permitted to speak to journalists on this matter. “The governor said Kwara has seven persons on the list and all of them are from the same local government.”

Governor Rotimi Akeredelu of Ondo State, who appeared on the list as the South-west campaign coordinator, also complained to the party’s leadership that the names of individuals he nominated were ignored. Mr Akeredolu had been seen rooting for Mr Tinubu before and after he emerged the presidential candidate of the party.

“If the list is authentic, it means that the party and the candidate are not serious about the campaign,” the insider told PREMIUM TIMES. “We believe that at the state, electoral influence resides with the governors and If the governors nominated people to the campaign council and they were ignored, it means there is danger.”

In the northern region, some APC governors are fuming that Mr Tinubu failed to carry them along in the campaign journey so far, those familiar with the matter told PREMIUM TIMES. The fear of the governors is that “the APC presidential candidate does not trust anyone of them apart from those around him.”

The governors, especially in the North-west, believe their political futures are not secured in the hands of Mr Tinubu, whom they had accused of sidelining them. They believe his handling of the campaign council list has suggested he lacks respect for the governors’ forum.

Sources with knowledge of the thinking in the aggrieved governors’ circle and opposition politics said the disagreement is creating an opportunity for the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to strategise for the backing of the North-west APC governors.

The North-west governors, particularly, are said to be threatening to withdraw their support should they continue to be disregarded
