The 12-year-old student of the Lekki-based school died last November after he was allegedly attacked by five of his colleagues for refusing to join a cult group.

Oromoni’s father had claimed his child was beaten and fed a liquid chemical that eventually led to his death.

Dowen College, however, dismissed the claim, alleging that the boy sustained injuries while playing football with colleagues.

In a letter dated January 4, and to Femi Falana (SAN), counsel to the family of the deceased student, Mojisola Dada, the chief coroner of Lagos, said the inquest will be held at the magistrate court located at Epe district.

In the letter by Mikail Kadiri, coroner of Epe district, Falana was asked to forward a list of suspects and witnesses to be summoned to court for the judicial inquiry.

“I have the directive of the chief coroner of Lagos State, honourable justice M. A. Dada to remind you that the inquest into the death of Sylvester Oromoni will commence on Saturday, 15th January, 2022 at Magistrate Court No. 4, Epe district, combined high court and magistrate court of Lagos State, Epe at 9:00am prompt; the hearing shall be in open court,” the letter read.

“You are further reminded to file and serve depositions of all witnesses you intend to call at the inquest and forward a list of persons whom, in your opinion, needs to be summoned by the court.

“The depositions may be filed at any of the Magisterial Districts in Lagos State and served electronically on all parties concerned. Please find attached the name, firm/representation and phone numbers of parties that attended the preliminary meeting held on the 16th December, 2021. Thank you.”

Two autopsies were conducted on the deceased, one by the Delta police and the second by the force’s Lagos command.

The first autopsy earlier released to the public had revealed that the deceased died of “chemical intoxication”.

After a police probe, Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos police commissioner, said findings had been forwarded to the state’s department of public prosecution (DPP).

In the DPP’s advice released on Wednesday, it was stated that the police investigation and the two autopsies conducted on the body of the deceased student failed to establish a prima facie case against the suspects.

A Lagos magistrate court had also granted bail to the five students charged with the alleged murder of Oromoni.

The police also released a housemaster and other staff of the school, saying the court order to detain them had elapsed.

Police nab two hired to kill 85-year-old man

Metro News Happening In Nigeria Today

Mr Shehu Mohammed, the Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in charge of FCT and Niger, has said 80 per cent of Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) across the thirty-six states including the FCT are caused by human error.

Mohammed said this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that human, mechanical and the environment which was natural were the leading causes of RTCs in the country.

He also said that illicit drug and alcohol abuse, poor vision and over-speeding were also among factors that causes road accidents in the nation.

According to Mohammed, the human error contributed to almost 80 per cent of RTCs because it is the human that normally control the mechanical.

“We as human, we contribute a lot of crashes on the roads, especially during the Ember months where many drivers try to double their efforts to meet up with the year’s demand.

“About 80 per cent of road crashes are caused by human errors because most of the crashes are avoidable and preventable, “he said.

According to him, for instance, a driver that will start driving from Kano coming through Abuja axis down to the south without a rest is definitely inviting a crash.

“You can imagine the kind of fatigue, and then he get tired and want to sleep, and again maybe the vehicle is already overloaded.

“This could cause pressure on the mechanical system of the vehicle which is also a factor contributing to RTCs, ” he said.

“So I think those are the things that normally contributed to this kind of increase in road traffic crashes especially at night, “he said.

Mohammed said that poor vehicle maintenance was also a human error adding that the driver or the owner of the vehicle were to maintain the vehicle regularly and periodically for good function of the vehicle.

He said: “but then, the environment, this is natural which is beyond human control.

“However, I think what is happening now at the raining season is what is causing the increase in the traffic crashes.

“You will agree with me that the low visibility during rain fall, the slippery road, and then people not been able to see far may likely contribute to some of the causes of the increase in the RTCs, ” he said.

Mohammed urged the motorists to pay more attention to highway signs, adding that drivers ought to adopt defensive driving techniques by scanning through the roads and consider other road users to prevent crashes.

The FRSC boss reiterated the corps corporate strategic role for the year 2022 as to reduce the road crashes and attendant fatality by two per cent.

She fell 30 feet from the balcony, according to him.

This morning, paramedics were rushed to the Rosa mar Hotel, close to the party destination of San Antonio, but she was not able to be saved.

An investigation by the police has begun. In the west of the island’s Cala de Bou, the Rosa mar is a four-star hotel for adults only that is only a short distance from the beach.

Earlier this month, a 35-year-old British woman died after falling from the sixth floor of the Hotel Bellver in the Majorcan capital Palma. Another British woman, 48, also died last month in a fall from an eighth-floor room at the four-star Hotel Melia Palma Marina.

What did the Police reports confess?

According to reports, her boyfriend was with her when the terrifying fall occurred. She had reportedly fallen about 30 feet from the Rosamar Hotel’s balcony, according to what he informed Spanish police.

The boyfriend first informed the hotel staff, who then dialled 911. The hotel’s receptionist claimed he was told not to speak up.

One insider said, “It all happened extremely rapidly.” “Nothing had occurred previously that could have signalled to hotel workers that there were any issues, such as noise in the room or other things of that nature.

Police and paramedics were called after the woman’s partner raced down to the reception area. Around 9 a.m. local time on Sunday (8 a.m. BST), paramedics arrived on the scene, but sadly they were unable to save her life. The terrible death’s circumstances are the subject of a police inquiry.
