Sowore was beaten up when he showed up at the Federal High Court in Abuja for the hearing of the case between the federal government and the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

As earlier reported by Naija News 247, the former presidential candidate was denied entrance into the courtroom by a joint team of security operatives including police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to reports from journalists present on ground, the suspected hoodlums numbering about 20 arrived while Sowore was still engaging the security operatives on why he was denied entrance.

Shortly after they arrived, the hoodlums who were described as looking unkempt, attacked Sowore, inflicting punches and blows upon him but surprisingly, the security operatives just kept looking at the entire scenario.

It took the shoutings from other people on ground to force the security agents into action and save Sowore, but even at that, the hoodlums were not arrested.

This sparked angry reactions from the onlookers, forcing the security operatives to pick some of the thugs before they disappeared completely.

The security operatives reportedly got hostile after the situation with the hoodlums and started hitting people including journalists with sticks.

They went further to threaten some journalists, asking them not to record the situation.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has pleaded ‘not guilty’ during his re-arraigned at a federal high court in Abuja on terrorism charges.

Naija News 247 reports that the court session on Thursday commenced at 10 am.

When the charges were read to him, the IPOB leader pleaded ‘not guilty’.

Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers are also making a case for the IPOB leader to be transferred from the DSS custody to the Like correctional facility.

Godwin Obaseki and Dan Orbhi

The Supreme Court, on Friday, ended the leadership tussle in the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo with the dismissal of an appeal filed by the Dan Orbhi-led faction.

The suit is seeking a court order to authenticate the ad hoc delegate elections conducted by Mr Orbhi’s faction and to invalidate another one conducted by Governor Godwin Obaseki’s faction.

In a judgment by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court held that the issue of leadership by political parties is an internal affair, with the courts having no jurisdiction.

In the appeal marked SC/CV/979/2022, filed by Monday Osagie, the Supreme Court said it lacked merit because it is not justiciable.

IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu trial adjourned till January 19

Mr Agim, who delivered the unanimous judgment, asked political parties to always adhere strictly to their guidelines, rules and regulations to promote genuine democracy.

Messrs Obaseki and Orbhi have been at each other’s throats over who controls the party in Edo.

Others are Alli Odefa, National Vice Chairman, South-East, Olasoji Adagunobi-Oluwatukesi, National Vice Chairman, South-West; Setonji Koshoedo, Deputy National Secretary.

In a statement Thursday night, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba said the funds were not inducements.

The spokesman alleged there were “strange and unfounded motives to the Housing Allowance duly approved and paid to NWC members and staff”.

Ologunagba said the allowance went through due process of the party “in line with the Conditions of Service and Entitlement of the Staff and Principal Officers”.

IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu trial adjourned till January 19

The image maker told Nigerians that if any individual decides to return money, such does not in any way suggest that it was paid as a bribe or was illegitimate.

“A bribe is defined as ‘money or any other valuable consideration given or promised with a view to corrupting the behaviour of a person, especially in that person’s performance as a public official.

“This is not the case in the payment of Housing Allowance duly approved for officials and staff of the Party”, the statement added.
