Toby Okechukwu (PDP-Enugu) has faulted his inclusion on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) list for the 2023 poll as the Labour Party’s candidate for Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency.

Mr Okechukwu, also the deputy minority leader of the House of Representatives, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

“My attention has been drawn to the list of candidates for the 2023 general election released by INEC, wherein my name was published as the Labour Party Candidate for Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Enugu State.

“I wish to state that I will not be contesting as the candidate of the Labour Party or any other party in the said election. I remain a member of the PDP,” he said.

Mr Okechukwu said his position on the matter had since been conveyed to the national chairman of the Labour Party.

I don’t know Tinubu’s location, but it’s outside Nigeria: Festus Keyamo

Festus Keyamo, spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, says the exact whereabouts of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, is not known to him.

“He (Tinubu) is not in the country at present”, Mr Keyamo, who appeared on a Channels Television programme on Wednesday said. When pressed about the whereabouts of his principal, he said, “I don’t have such information.”

His comment comes barely a few days that the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that Mr Tinubu was in the United Kingdom.

Last week, Mr Onanuga posted on his Facebook explaining that Mr Tinubu was taking a short break abroad and in readiness for what would “certainly be a grueling campaign” ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The continued absence of the APC candidate had been a trending topic on social media with many of his critics raising suspicion about his ill health.

Mr Tinubu had missed three key political events in the country among which was the signing of the peace accord by all the presidential candidates participating in the 2023 election.

His running-mate, Kashim Shettima represented had been standing in at such key events with Nigerians raising concerns over his suitability for the country’s top seat.

There have been insinuations that the APC presidential candidate was suffering from ‘urinary incontinence with video footage emerging from his camp, fuelling further questions about his fitness.

Amid speculations about his health status, Mr Tinubu, on Sunday, released a seven seconds video of himself riding on a stationary bicycle through his verified Twitter handle and shared workout footage for ‘proof of life’ to slam his critics.

In the message preceding the video, Mr Tinubu had said he was “healthy” and still in the presidential race.

He denied that he had withdrawn from the February 2023 presidential election.

“Many have said I have died; others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign.

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is best fit for Nigeria’s top job in 2023, says campaign spokesman Festus Keyamo.

Mr Keyamo appeared on Channels Television on Wednesday to address Mr Tinubu’s now-viral “proof of life” video.

“In my own Twitter post on it, I said we are not trying to prove anything to anybody. Our candidate is not struggling to prove himself to anybody,” Mr Keyamo said. “People who are close to him, they know that he’s an avid cyclist; he does that all the time. It’s his routine.”

Mr Keyamo’s comments come after Mr Tinubu, in the short video released on Twitter on Sunday, was seen riding a stationary bike.

The video, which was also posted on Mr Tinubu’s verified Twitter handle, was captioned: “Many have said I have died; others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign. Well… Nope. This is the reality: I am strong, I am healthy, and I am READY to serve Nigerians from Day One.”

On Friday, the Director Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement shared on his Facebook page that Mr Tinubu was healthy in London, United Kingdom.

The APC candidate has been absent at three key events leading to the 2023 presidential elections, notably absent at the signing of the Peace Accord by all the presidential candidates and party leaders, further fuelling speculations of his ill health. His running mate, Kashim Shettima, instead represented Mr Tinubu.

The former Lagos governor has, however, emphasised that it is “unnecessary” for him to be physically fit to rule Nigeria, stressing that he was seeking to be president because he has the necessary mental alertness to govern a diverse and developing nation like Nigeria.

Gov. Soludo denies mocking Obi, says is handiwork of overzealous reporter

Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo says claims that he directed members of his political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to work against the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, are false.

Soludo said though he met with APGA members, the LP presidential standard bearer was never part of his discussion with them.

Soludo’s press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime described the allegation as the handiwork of faceless individuals.

In a statement in Awka, Aburime also denied the report that Soludo was already eyeing the presidency after Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s promised one tenure in office.

Aburime said: “We note with disdain the fallacious and distasteful publication of a write-up by faceless individuals

“We would have chosen to ignore this mischievous and utterly despicable publication, but for the benefit of a few innocent Ndi Anambra who could be mis-informed by the write up.

“Governor Chukwuma Soludo only held a private meeting with his party members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). This meeting is a routine gathering where issues concerning APGA are discussed.

“At no time during the meeting was, Mr Peter Obi, a point of discourse.

“It is pertinent to note that issues discussed at the meeting were purely issues relating to APGA affairs

“We therefore urge Ndi-Anambra and members of the general public to completely ignore and disregard the publication in all its entirety.”
