Arsenal have already signed five players in the current transfer window, bringing in Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos, and Matt Turner. But there’s a sense that their business might not be done yet.

Speaking after Arsenal’s 6-0 Emirates Cup thrashing of Sevilla, in which new signing Gabriel Jesus scored a hat-trick, Mikel Arteta certainly wasn’t ruling out further transfers.

“We’re still hoping to do something else if the market allows us to do that,” Arteta said.

“You’ve seen some movement in the other direction in the last few days so we want to get the perfect balance and the plan we wanted right at the beginning.

“Whether we can accomplish that or not is another story, but I’m happy with where we are now.”

Arteta is presumably referencing the couple of loans to go through this week, with young goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo joining Crewe Alexandra and Nuno Tavares joining Marseille.

There’s also a sense that Bernd Leno’s transfer to Fulham is on the verge of going through, so it’s been a fairly productive week on the outgoings side.

But there’s still work to be done, with Lucas Torreira, Hector Bellerin, and Pablo Mari all seemingly determined to leave the club this summer and no agreements yet close.

After that, perhaps Arsenal will look to make one or two further additions to the squad ahead of a busy season.
