Former Aviation Minister and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, has advised Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to join forces with the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Fani-Kayode gave the advise on Wednesday via his Facebook page, in a statement, titled, “A WORD FOR THE WIKE GROUP: LEAVE THE CARCASS AND STAND WITH US.
He said the People’s Democratic Party, PDP is no longer a national party and does not even pretend to have respect for Southerners.
He wrote, “Honestly my sympathies, heart and pity go out to the Wike group. They are being treated like filth by their own party. They literally had no choice but to pull out of the Atiku campaign.
“Yet I saw all this coming long ago. Why do you think I left the PDP in the first place? It is a party that is incapable of rewarding loyalty and keeping its word. It is a party that begins and ends in the North and every Southerner and Middle Belter that is still there is nothing but a quisling and a stooge.
“It is a party that does not believe in or understand the importance of building bridges of peace, love and understanding between the North and the South and ensuring fairness, justice and equity for all.
“It is a party that does nothing but insult and seek to marginalise and destroy it’s perceived detractors and enemies and putting Nigeria in its hands would mean the end of our country within a matter of months.
“This is not the PDP of OBJ, UMYA or GEJ. This is a dying and decaying fly and maggot infested carcass and a pitiful shadow and shell of its former self.
“A party with no morals or decency that treats those that stood by it, helped it and fought for it over the years with contempt and disdain.
“A party that uses and dumps. A party that seeks to deride, misrepresent and humiliate all those that once stood in the trenches with them and fought fir their cause.
“A party which has close and covert links with the terrorists that are killing, maiming and kidnapping our people.
“A party which is powered and controlled by hidden forces that believe they own Nigeria and that have not only sought to destabilise our nation but have also unleashed murder, mayhem, hell and terror against our people.
“A party that does not want peace but delights in conflict, rancour, division, hegemony and war.
“A party some of whose leaders and members are behind much of the insurgency, bloodshed and mass murder in the North West and parts of the North Central and particularly in Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Nassarawa and Katsina.
“A party that has done nothing but humiliate it’s former President and flagbearer for the 2015 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan, over the last seven years and who did not even see fit to give him a place or a role in their Presidential Campaign Council.
“A party whose National Chairman is little better than a haughty peacock and who is so vain, puffed up, conceited and deluded that he believes he is more important than all the Presidents on the African continent put together.
“The only thing they know how to do is use religion and ethnicity to fight. They know nothing else. They pit Nigerians against Nigerians and seek to divide us rather than bring us together.
“They do not care about progress and they do not even know the meaning of the word: they only care about their pockets.
“The only way forward for the Wike group is to come out of the shadows and support Asiwaju for the presidential campaign and get their supporters to vote for his candidacy. It is a matter of honor.
“They took everything from them including their self-respect and dignity. What more do they have left and what are they waiting for?
“If Atiku wins the election he will come after them with all he has got and utterly crush and destroy them.
“Even if Atiku or Okowa themselves are not interested in doing so the hawks around them like Sule Lamido, Attahiru Bafarawa and Adamu Waziri will ensure this is done.
“For the Wike group the threat is now existential. Each and every one of them has been marked for destruction and humiliation by the new leaders of their party.
“PDP is not only a menace to their own loyal members but a very real and present danger to Nigeria.
“They should be treated with contempt and the shameless club of degenerates and clan of lepers that they are.
“The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP gets messier on Wednesday with a group loyal to Governor Nyesom Wike announcing that they will not be part of the campaign of presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2023 elections.
“The group, after an all night meeting in the private residence of Wike in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, said they will not participate in the campaign unless Iyorcha Ayu resigned as the chairman of the party.”
“The decision of the group was announced by former Deputy National Chairman of APC, Bode George after the meeting that was held from 7pm on Tuesday, September 20 to past 2am on Wednesday September 21.”
APC, Tinubu desperate to retain power, not ready for election, governance – Atiku
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are disoriented and disjointed and are only interested in clinging on to power.
Atiku, in a statement by his spokesperson, Senator Dino Melaye, Friday opined that APC and Tinubu are not ready for the election and governance.
He implored Nigerians to critically examine the conduct and character of the people and parties that seek to lead.
He claimed that it is becoming increasingly apparent that the APC members are desperate to retain power.
The PDP presidential candidate also claimed that the APC used media propaganda to confuse Nigerians.
The statement read in part, “I once had a cause to describe the APC as an NGO and not a political party. Even now that it has managed to have a contrivance called party executive it remains formless, unstructured, uncoordinated and unorganised. It’s not surprising since as you may recall the coronation of the Chairman of the Party was a mere formalisation of the appointment approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the lifewire, navigator, and camp commandant of the APC.
“As an indication of the unpreparedness of the APC to lead Nigeria, the party, in its nearly 10 years of existence, has no Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is usually referred to as the soul or the conscience of the Party. Without a soul, the party has remained rudderless, floundering, reactive and retrogressive. Before Ahmed Tinubu emerged as the flag bearer of the Party against the run of play, he had, in his usual entitled fashion, been addressed as the leader of the party. However, neither he nor any other was good enough to lead the BOT, so the structure remained sterilised.
“With the acephalic existence of the party, it could only function under a Caretaker Committee. Again, no one was worthy to lead the intervening contraption but a sitting Governor, who ordinarily should be preoccupied with the affairs of his state. As things stand, all the illegality committed in Buni’s era may be subjected to judicial interrogation. The shilly-shally continued until the Presidential Convention of Parties fell due.
“Again, the APC acted disjointedly, asking to be granted an extension of time by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC). While PDP had conducted its Party Convention and Presidential Election convention as scheduled, INEC had to babysit and spoon-feed APC before it could hold its Party and Presidential primaries conventions. How the Party dilly-dallied before ending up with the contentious selection of a running mate for its presidential candidate is another lamentable story waiting to be told another day.
“Another evidence of maturational lag manifested during the Presidential Primaries. The National Chairman of the Party, acting for himself or a proxy expressed preference for a candidate, while majority of APC Governors had their own choice. Though President Buhari, sometimes humoured to be the leader of the Party, did not make any pronouncement, it is unlikely that the Chairman acted alone without the approval of the man behind the mask. Till today it has been a ding-dong between the National Chairman of APC and the flag bearer of the Party. Where is the time to think or act on the good of Nigeria in all these?
“Perhaps a more telling indicator of the gross unpreparedness of the APC for governance is in the constitution of its Campaign Council. In its unguided attempt to be at pace with the better organised and better-structured party like the PDP, the APC amateurs bypassed processes, ignored consultation, discarded vital inputs and ran to the press with a hurriedly hemmed list of Council members.
“As the joke goes, it is the matter they are still settling. The omission or commission arising from the composition has led to accusations and counter-accusations of usurpation of power, disregard for processes, violation of power boundaries, engagement of the dead and even the borrowing of names from other parties to make up numbers or profiles.
“The inauguration of the APC Campaign Council has since been postponed indefinitely! If the kick off of campaigns was unified by INEC APC would still have held PDP and other parties down from commencing their campaign, but Gentlemen, as you can see PDP is already up and running”.
Nigeria would have been better if leaders followed Lar’s example: Jonathan
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan says Nigeria would have been a better place to live if the country’s leaders had followed the example of the late Solomon Lar and other like-minded politicians.
“If we had continued in the same political trajectory promoted by the likes of Chief Lar in the second and third republics, our country would have been better off in terms of our unity, peace and pace of development,” said Mr Jonathan, at the public presentation of a book ‘Chronicles of the Rainbow’, and the inauguration of the Solomon and Mary Lar Leadership Institute, in Abuja on Thursday. “Chief Lar offered love in place of bitter and divisive politicking, built bridges to cement the cracks in our unity and showed courage in the face of injustice and military dictatorship.”
The ex-president urged politicians to imitate the political attributes of inclusion, sacrifice and selflessness, which he said the Plateau’s first civilian governor exhibited.
“As we head towards the 2023 general elections, I will urge that we all, as critical stakeholders, whether as candidates or voters, embrace the principles of the late Chief Solomon Lar’s politics of inclusion, bridge-building, unity and accommodation,” Mr Jonathan added.
He recalled that Mr Lar was the only governor from the North in the Second Republic who contested and won an election on the platform of the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP), a party that had the South as its stronghold.
The former president stressed that Mr Lar’s stance and subsequent victory alone epitomised his character and disposition as a bridge builder and advocate of national unity.
“Sadly, we are now playing the kind of politics that Chief Lar detested. Issues around ethnicity, religious bigotry, hate speech and personal attacks, rather than principles and policies affecting the lives of Nigerians, have continued to dominate political discourses around the country as political parties begin their campaigns,” Mr Jonathan admitted.
He, however, urged “politicians who are seeking to occupy different elective offices across the nation, as well as leaders and promoters of the various political parties to learn from the likes of Chief Solomon Lar, who played politics of sacrifice and selflessness, in the interest of the people.”
