Suspected cyber-fraudster, Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas, who recently pleaded guilty to fraud in United States, has narrated how he allegedly bribed Nigerian ”Super Cop” Abba Kyari.

Peoples Gazette reports that U.S. Justice Department said court documents quoted Abbas as having disclosed during interrogation that he paid bribes to Kyari, a deputy police commissioner, to have one of his rivals arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a dispute over a $1.1 million scam of a Qatari businessperson.

Federal authorities in the U.S. have been investigating Mr Abbas and his co-conspirators after their syndicate was busted in Dubai last June.

Kyari did not immediately return calls and messages seeking his response to Mr Abbas’ claims when reached by The Gazette on Thursday morning.

Abbas (Hushpuppi), according to the documents asked DSP Kyari to arrest and jail a fellow fraudster Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a dispute presumably over how to share the $1.1 million loot received from the Qatari businessperson. Mr Vincent subsequently contacted the victim and informed him that he was being scammed by a syndicate involving him and Abbas.

This elicited anger from Abbas, who contacted Mr Kyari to arrest and jail his rival over the dispute. Hushpuppi said Kyari sent pictures of Vincent in jail and subsequently sent his bank account number to him to which a wire transfer should be made having done a good job.

“Court documents outline a dispute among members of the conspiracy, which allegedly prompted Vincent to contact the victim and claim that Abbas and Juma were engaged in fraud. After this contact, Abbas allegedly arranged to have Vincent jailed in Nigeria by Abba Alhaji Kyari, 46, of Nigeria.

“According to the affidavit, Kyari is a highly decorated deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who is alleged to have arranged for Vincent to be arrested and jailed at Abbas’ behest, and then sent Abbas photographs of Vincent after his arrest. Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment,” U.S. Justice department said in a statement.

After the $1.1 million fraud was successful, Mr Abbas spent $230,000 on a watch and also bribed officials at St. Kitts and Nevis for his citizenship of that island country.

“Approximately $230,000 of the stolen funds allegedly were used to purchase a Richard Mille RM11-03 watch, which was hand delivered to Abbas in Dubai and subsequently appeared in Hushpuppi’s social media posts.

“Other illicit proceeds from the scheme were allegedly converted into cashier’s checks, including $50,000 in checks that were used by Abbas and a co-conspirator to fraudulently acquire a St. Christopher and Nevis citizenship, as well as a passport for Abbas obtained by creating a false marriage certificate and then bribing a government official in St. Kitts,” officials said.

Abbas pleaded guilty to multimillion-dollar fraud earlier this month and faces up to 20 years in jail.

Mr Shehu Mohammed, the Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in charge of FCT and Niger, has said 80 per cent of Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) across the thirty-six states including the FCT are caused by human error.

Mohammed said this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that human, mechanical and the environment which was natural were the leading causes of RTCs in the country.

He also said that illicit drug and alcohol abuse, poor vision and over-speeding were also among factors that causes road accidents in the nation.

According to Mohammed, the human error contributed to almost 80 per cent of RTCs because it is the human that normally control the mechanical.

So Sad! Auto crash in Abuja claimed no fewer than five prospective NYSC members' life

“We as human, we contribute a lot of crashes on the roads, especially during the Ember months where many drivers try to double their efforts to meet up with the year’s demand.

“About 80 per cent of road crashes are caused by human errors because most of the crashes are avoidable and preventable, “he said.

According to him, for instance, a driver that will start driving from Kano coming through Abuja axis down to the south without a rest is definitely inviting a crash.

“You can imagine the kind of fatigue, and then he get tired and want to sleep, and again maybe the vehicle is already overloaded.

“This could cause pressure on the mechanical system of the vehicle which is also a factor contributing to RTCs, ” he said.

“So I think those are the things that normally contributed to this kind of increase in road traffic crashes especially at night, “he said.

Mohammed said that poor vehicle maintenance was also a human error adding that the driver or the owner of the vehicle were to maintain the vehicle regularly and periodically for good function of the vehicle.

He said: “but then, the environment, this is natural which is beyond human control.

“However, I think what is happening now at the raining season is what is causing the increase in the traffic crashes.

“You will agree with me that the low visibility during rain fall, the slippery road, and then people not been able to see far may likely contribute to some of the causes of the increase in the RTCs, ” he said.

Mohammed urged the motorists to pay more attention to highway signs, adding that drivers ought to adopt defensive driving techniques by scanning through the roads and consider other road users to prevent crashes.

Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa has dismissed allegations that his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, is disloyal.

The governor, in a statement issued by his aide, Dr Kola Oredipe, also denied any rift with his predecessor, Sen. Seriake Dickson.

Diri reaffirmed that he has implicit confidence in Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as a worthy partner in the governance of the state.

The group had alleged that Ewhrudjakpo was working against the interest of the governor.

In a statement signed by its leader, Erepadei Ebiowei, the BPV said it had observed with dismay that most of the actions of Ewhrujakpor were unbecoming of a deputy governor.

The group alleged that the deputy governor was running a parallel administration within the government despite the latitude he enjoyed from the governor.

It also accused Ewhrujakpor of hobnobbing and meeting with aggrieved members within the ruling party and opposition party candidates of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The group called on the leadership of the PDP in the state and at the national level to probe the deputy governor.

According to the BPV, if unchecked, the deputy governor will constitute the greatest threat to the fortunes of the party in the 2023 elections.
