Frimpong shines as Leverkusen come from behind to beat Bremen

Jeremie Frimpong was instrumental in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-2 victory against Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion. Frimpong provided a goal and an assist, which proved to be the turning point for Leverkusen in their second consecutive Bundesliga win.

At the start of the game, the two sides, separated by just one point, were evenly matched. Leverkusen attempted to play through the wide areas with Frimpong and Moussa Diaby, but Bremen took advantage of Leverkusen’s inability to clear their lines and scored the opening goal through Marvin Ducksch.

Despite being behind, Leverkusen had confidence from their midweek Europa League win and quickly equalized through Mitchel Bakker’s volley from Frimpong’s cross. Leverkusen carried their momentum into the second half and took the lead through Frimpong’s deflected shot. Bremen tried to level the score, but Leverkusen’s Lukáš Hrádecký made a crucial save to deny Füllkrug.

Leverkusen slowed the game down and found a third goal on the counter through Adam Hložek’s header. Bremen were awarded a penalty and Füllkrug scored, but it was not enough to avoid their sixth defeat in nine matches since the Bundesliga restart.

Bremen’s winless streak against Leverkusen now stands at six matches, and their hopes of European qualification have been dashed, while Leverkusen’s chances have been given a boost.
