Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, the President, Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, says the Ministry of Labour and Employment has yet to invite the doctors for dialogue, Naija News 247 News gathered.

Okhuaihesuyi made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja while giving an update on the NARD strike, which enters day six.

He said: “No invitation has been extended to NARD from the Ministry of Labour and Employment over the ongoing strike; the strike is still on.

“We did not get any invite from the Ministry of Labour, so we will continue till they call us.

“However, we have a scheduled meeting with Rep. Tanko Sununu, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, on April 8.”

Okhuaihesuyi added that NARD was still waiting and hoping that government would respond appropriately, noting that it was desirous that the strike came to an end.

He said the association would not shift ground because that was why it delayed the strike and considered all options to ensure it was averted, but had to resort to the action as last resort.

He explained: “We reviewed all avenues to avoid the strike and sorted things out before it got to this stage and as it stands now, we cannot back down.

“That is the instruction from our National Executive Council; we resolved that until our demands are met, the strike will continue.”

NAN reports that NARD embarked on an indefinite strike on April 1 to press home its demands over welfare, non-review of hazard allowance, salaries, among others.

NARD is seeking immediate payment of all salaries owed to house officers, including March salary not paid before the end of business on March 31, 2021.

Others are: the abolishment of exorbitant bench fees being paid by members on outside postings in all training institutions across the country.

The association is also demanding for upward review of the current hazard allowance to 50 per cent of consolidated basic salaries of all health workers and payment of  outstanding COVID-19 inducement allowance, among others.

Meanwhile, the NARD president said “government hospitals are still providing services as consultants are still attending to patients.

“It is the resident doctors that are on strike and they are below the consultants, so, services are still on in hospitals.”

Peter Obi fumes over supporter’s alleged attack, arrest in Lagos

Peter Obi, a leading 2023 presidential candidate, has condemned an alleged attack on Labour Party supporters in Lagos State.

On Sunday in Oshodi, Lagos, a social media user named Obi Flag Boy is said to have been attacked.

Additionally, it was reported that a few party supporters had been detained prior to the rally on Saturday.

Obi reacted on Twitter by lambasting the assault and intimidation of the party members.

He emphasised that freedom of peaceful assembly and unrestricted electioneering are guaranteed by the constitution and urged security agencies to remind their agents to uphold civil liberties.

”Elections are not deemed free and fair when a certain group employs the tool of intimidation to ensure that the opposition is silenced, both at the campaigns and at the polls.

”Peaceful assembly and unfettered electioneering campaigns are constitutionally guaranteed. Both and other ordered liberties cannot be breached wilfully by security agents.

”Recent reports of OBIdients being silently arrested by some security agents is extremely disturbing and condemnable. We must ensure that everyone is given a level playing field in the forthcoming elections and that no eligible Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation, is disenfranchised, more so through violence and intimidation.

”I call on the Federal and State agencies to remind their operatives on the need to respect civil liberties,” he tweeted.

ARCON stated that Meta Platforms Incorporated’s continued exposure of unvetted adverts had also led to loss of revenue to the Federal Government.

ARCON is seeking N30bn in sanction for the violation of the advertising laws and for loss of revenue as a result of Meta Incorporated’s continued exposure of unapproved adverts on it’s platforms.

The statement read in part, “ARCON reiterates that it would not permit unethical and irresponsible advertising on the Nigeria’s advertising space.”

According to ARCON, the Council is not regulating the online media space. Rather, it’s focus is on advertising and marketing communications on the online platforms in line with its establishment Act.
