When Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona, he took a large paycut to facilitate the move on the basis that he would be compensated over the course of the rest of his deal.

Not long after he arrived, however, it was claimed that he was one 25 players who had been put up for sale. Just as they did with Frenkie de Jong, it seemed like Barcelona were prepared to go back on their agreement with the forward.

Last week, it was claimed that Chelsea were interested in signing the player, whom Barcelona got for free from Arsenal.

This week, they seem more than just a little interested.

Chelsea still want Aubameyang Club waiting on Barcelona to weigh up attacking options RB Leipzig on the brink of signing Werner permanently The Daily Telegraph9 Aug 2022By Matt Law FOOTBALL NEWS CORRESPONDENT In demand: Forward Pierre-emerick Aubameyang (pictured) is a Chelsea target but Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wants to keep him Chelsea could find out this week if they have a realistic chance of signing Pierre-emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, while Timo Werner is on the brink of sealing his permanent return to RB Leipzig. Werner’s move, together with the fact that Callum Hudson-odoi and Hakim Ziyech want to leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts, will heighten Chelsea’s need to sign another attacker. Chelsea have been prioritising their interest in defender Wesley Fofana, who they remain in dialogue with Leicester City over, and midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is yet to tell Barcelona he wants to leave. It is understood that Barcelona are likely to sell only one of Aubameyang or Memphis Depay, who has also been linked to Chelsea and is a target for Juventus. Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez would ideally like to keep Aubameyang, who moved to Spain from Arsenal at the end of the January transfer window, but the club may be forced to take a more pragmatic approach having also signed Robert Lewandowski. Chelsea have been in talks with Barcelona over a number of deals this summer. Left-back Marcos Alonso has agreed a deal to join the Spanish club after Cesar Azpilicueta last week decided to stay at Chelsea and sign a new contract. If De Jong decides to leave the Nou Camp, Chelsea are confident he will choose them over Manchester United. Werner’s departure will create significant space on the wage bill, as the German earned close to £270,000 a week at Chelsea, who will also receive a fee of around £20 million, less than half the £47.5million the club paid for him two years ago. But Werner’s book value with three years remaining on his contract was £28.5 million, meaning Chelsea have accepted a relatively small loss that could potentially decrease further if various add-ons are paid. Chelsea could also offload two more forward players, with Hudson-odoi hoping to leave on loan before the window shuts and Ziyech still keen on a move away. Borussia Dortmund and Southampton have shown an interest in Hudson-odoi, while AC Milan have held talks over taking Ziyech on loan. Another player who is leaving Chelsea is defender Malang Sarr, who started his medical to join Monaco on an initial loan yesterday. The Ligue 1 club have agreed to pay around £600,000 to take Sarr on loan, with an obligation, as long as certain conditions are met, to buy him for £10million, plus just over £3million in add-ons. Azpilicueta admitted he was more comfortable on the right side of a back three than at right wing-back when explaining his decision to sign a new two-year contract at Chelsea, rather than holding out for a move to Barcelona. “I am really happy,” said the 32-year-old. “It felt right to carry on my journey here in a new project. After the Club World Cup where I became the only player to ever win every trophy, [I felt] it was the time to go back [to Spain]. But then everything happened with this club. I wanted to stay committed to the club.”

According to the article above, “Chelsea could find out this week if they have a realistic chance of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.

“It is understood that Barcelona are likely to sell only one of Aubameyang or Memphis Depay, who has also been linked to Chelsea and is a target for Juventus.

“Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez would ideally like to keep Aubameyang.”

When AubaChelsea to learn from Barcelona this week if Aubameyang is for sale signed for Barcelona, Xavi called the transfer a ‘gift fallen from the sky’ and, given they can demand a transfer fee for the Aubameyang, he’s not wrong.

Barcelona got the goals they needed for the second half of the season and, now, could pocket a significant sum on top, too.

Chelsea have reportedly already been in touch with Auba to sound him out about a move, although at this point no bid has been forthcoming and Chelsea are believed to view him as a back-up option, should other moves fail to happen.

Arsenal loanee keeps his 4th clean sheet

Okonkwo kept his fourth clean sheet of the season in Saturday’s 1-0 win, making it nine goals conceded in nine games.
It’s a very solid start for the young Gunner, who celebrated his 21st birthday earlier this month.
Just as encouraging as his performances is the fact Okonkwo has been featuring so consistently so far. The goalkeeper is yet to miss a minute of his side’s League Two campaign.

Conversely, if you can nail down your place in the early stages of the loan, it sets you up well to play regularly all year.
So far, it doesn’t appear that Okonkwo is going to have much trouble earning minutes with Crewe.

Referee gets life ban for holding VAR review on fan’s mobile phone

NINTCHDBPICT000761556235

Serbian referee Stefan Lazovic who used footage on a fan’s mobile phone for VAR review to overturn an offside decision has been banned for life.

Lazovic went viral after pictures emerged of his VAR check in one of Serbia’s lower-tier competitions earlier this week.

He had originally ruled out a goal for offside before studying the spectator’s video, eventually deciding that the player was in fact onside.

And the Sun reports that Serbian chiefs were not impressed by the decision and have since stripped Lazovic of his duties.

Lazovic’s alleged dismissal sparked outrage on social media, as fans stood in support of the referee.

Former Manchester United and Chelsea star Nemanja Matic commented on an Instagram post supporting Lazovic with a two raised hands emoji.

The original comment written by ftbl.serbia read: “Support for Stefan Lazovic! Why should only he suffer, why such a rigorous sentence, why a lifetime ban from trial?

“How is it possible that there is no penalty for the delegate and all other authorities from the responsible FS of that district?

“How could the match be allowed to be played without one assistant referee?! Who is responsible here? Why does Stefan’s spear break?

“At the end of the day, the fact that he watched the video and changed the decision, just shows that he wanted everything to be FAIR!

“He talks about the fact that he was not a slave to his vanity, but he admitted and corrected his mistake.

“Well, this video went around the world and now millions of people have heard about the ‘over there’ football clubs Popovic and Apollon, as well as the village of Vrnjci!

“In short, we appeal to the judges’ organisation and the competent authorities – now you CHANGE the decision! Let the VAR system work for you too and cancel the penalty. Correct the ERROR!

“SUPPORT FOR STEFAN LAZOVIC!”

Dani Alves claims European football ‘full of racists’ after Vinicius Jnr slur

Published

on

Dani Alves, admitted in an interview with 'The Guardian' that he did not like the way Barcelona handled his farewell. Nor does he believe that the treatment of other legends, leaving him aside, has been appropriate. Even so, he feels grateful to Joan Laporta and Xavi Hernandez.

Dani Alves has claimed that the European football is “full of racists” as he responded to the racist abuse Vinicius Jnr was targeted with in Spain.

Real Madrid’s 22-year-old forward was targeted with a racist slur by agent Pedro Bravo, who said during an El Chiringuito discussion of the Brazil international that “in Spain, you have to respect rivals and stop playing the monkey”.

Following a backlash alleging that this was a racist stereotype, Bravo has subsequently apologised on social media by claiming that he misused a metaphor. It has opened a discussion across Spain and further afield of the language and attitude applied towards footballers with racial undertones.

Vinicius Junior has vowed to keep his goal dancing celebrations as they show “the happiness of a black Brazilian in Europe”, with his celebrations similar to those of his fellow Brazilian stars over the years – including international teammate Neymar.

Indeed, the Paris Saint-Germain star took to Twitter to defend his Vinicius: “Dribble, dance and be you! Happy just the way you are. Go for it my boy, next goal we dance.” Meanwhile, Brazil legend Pele added: “Football is joy. It’s a dance. It’s a real party. Although racism still exists, we will not allow that to stop us from continuing to smile.”

However, Alves has now gone further in his reaction to the fallout from Bravo’s comments in Spain by hitting out at the culture within European football. The right-back – who is currently playing for Mexican club Pumas having joined from Barcelona earlier this year – has stated that he experienced elements of racism everywhere he went on the continent.

Arsenal talent finally returns after 480-day injury absence

Alves wrote on Twitter: “It is serious that there are idiots who continue to think that the dances are the problem. Gentlemen, the real problem is that Europe is full of RACISTs and they do not accept that other nationalities stand out in their country more than they do. I experienced that in almost every place there.”

A statement from Real Madrid added that they condemned “regrettable and unfortunate comments made against our player” and would take legal action against anyone making racist comments towards members of their squad. The Brazilian Football Federation called for “dancing, dribbling and above all respect” in a statement of solidarity.

Brazil’s legendary striker Ronaldo, formerly of Real Madrid, joined in the condemnation of the abuse directed at Vinicius: “Your dances do not disrespect anyone, racism does: it disrespects, excludes, hurts and kills.”
