Buhari will be remembered for not interfering in elections - Naija News 247

Magnus Abe, a former senator representing Rivers South-East district in the National Assembly had states that President Muhammadu Buhari would be remembered for not interfering in any election.

This was stated by Abe after paying a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Giniwa, at his palace in the Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State to thank him and the council for the recent chieftaincy title (Mene Suanu I of Ogoniland) conferred on him.

He said the 2023 general elections was another opportunity for Nigerians to come together and elect a government of their choice.

“It is your vote that creates the government. Therefore, if you are the one creating the government, you should own the government that you create.

“And the government you create should serve you, should work for you, should have your interests and should have your interests above any other interests,” Abe stated.

He said Buhari should be commended for allowing Nigerians to freely choose who they want to lead them by not interfering with the electoral process.

Abe noted, “If President Muhammadu Buhari has not done anything for Nigeria, he has done something that Nigerians can never forget. He has given you the Nigerian people the power to choose whoever you want as your leader.

“He has refused to interfere in the politics and political choices of Nigerians. He has refused to manipulate the electoral process.

“And because of that, today, with the advent of the BVAS machine which identifies every voter, you have the opportunity to choose whoever you like.

“To choose a government that will place your rights, your feelings, your views, your needs, your aspirations, your hopes above every other consideration in the governance of your state and tour community.

“If you fail to make use of this opportunity to choose a government that will serve you; tomorrow, don’t come and talk about the dividends of democracy because dividends go to shareholders,” Abe stated.

Gininwa said the Ogoni ethnic nationality was part of Rivers State and should be allowed to produce the next governor in 2023.

Fifth columnist bribing PDP leaders with N25 million to work against Atiku, Ayu: NEC member

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are alerted of furtive moves by a compromised National Vice Chairman and a couple of members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to derail our Presidential Campaign and scuttle the deserving victory of our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar at the 2023 general elections.

This National Vice Chairman and his cohorts who confessed to have been heavily bankrolled are approaching and offering members of NEC sums ranging from N25 million to N28 million each to address a damaging press conference with fabrications aimed at derailing the Presidential Campaign.

The said National Vice Chairman had approached me personally as a member of NEC to inform me of plots to orchestrate a heavily funded Press Conference to be addressed by select NEC members seemingly calling for the resignation of the National Chairman, Sen. Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, but actually targeted at frustrating the Atiku Abubakar Presidential bid.

He pointedly confessed to me that the demands and agitation of his group has not been against the Party Chairman, as the public have been made to believe, but against Atiku Abubakar.

He also vowed that nothing will assuage the group which is now bent at derailing the PDP Presidential Campaign.

Central to this plot is the timing of the damaging press conference, which has been scheduled to hold soon after the inauguration of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and official commencement of campaigns with a view to unsettle the PDP Presidential Campaign and scuttle Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential bid.

Part of the scheme is to use the press conference to throw up heavily concocted script which will contain unprintable damaging claims, assertions and allusions that will trigger confusion within the Party and sidetrack the Presidential Campaign

The said National Vice Chairman informed me of how huge sums have been paid to certain media houses and social media influencers to isolate and escalate the damaging content of the press content and throw up negative narratives to frustrate the campaign.

As a loyal and very dedicated Party man, I am obliged to alert PDP leaders, members, supporters and the general public and expose this furtive scheme against Atiku Abubakar, which is completely against the national interest.

PDP members and the general public should be at alert and note the surreptitious real intentions of any press conference by any group of members of NEC, purported to be against the National Chairman.

Any NEC member involved in such a press conference had obviously fallen to the juicy financial offer by the said National Vice Chairman and his paymasters.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola: I’m Ready For Election

For the avoidance of doubt, it is imperative to state that the overwhelming support being enjoyed by Atiku Abubakar across board is not and cannot be bought with money as Nigerians see in him the embodiment of the solution our nation needs at this point.

Court bars Peter Obi, Labour Party, others from protesting at Lekki Tollgate –

Peter Obi/EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate

The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court has restrained Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) and its supporters from using the Lekki Tollgate as a base to hold the ‘Obidatti23 Forward Ever Rally’.

This followed a lawsuit filed by a group of legal practitioners, who sought to halt the rally, specifically in Lagos, Nigeria’s most popular metropolitan city, to avoid a reminiscence of the #EndSARS protest in 2020.

The lawyers, through their lead counsel, Temilola Awosika, had filed a motion at the Federal High Court, asking that Mr Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, be barred from using the Lekki Tollgate for their rally.

They told the court that holding the rally would cause a breakdown of peace and will result in post-traumatic stress disorder for them and the public.

In the suit marked FHC/L/CS/1729/2022; Mr Obi, Labour Party, Mr Baba-Ahmed, the Inspector General of Police, police commissioner in Lagos, SSS director-general, Lekki Concession Company Limited, Lagos attorney-general and the governor of Lagos, were among those joined as defendants in the case.

Mr Obi’s supporters had fixed Friday, October 1, 2022, for the rally to draw support for their preferred candidate.

Ruling on Wednesday, Justice Daniel Osiagor asked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, and the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, to ensure compliance with the court order.

Mr Osiagor held that while Mr Obi’s supporters cannot stop at the Lekki toll gate, they can pass through the venue to access Falomo Bridge and other venues at which the rally plans to meet.

However, a preliminary objection filed by the defendants seeking to stop the court from hearing the motion on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction could not be entertained.

The parties to the suit claimed they were yet to be served.

The Federal High Court later adjourned the hearing of the substantive suit to November 4, 2022.

Supporters of Mr Obi, who branded themselves as ‘Obidient’ have being holding rallies in Nigeria’s major towns, to garner support ahead of the 2023 general election.

Police will ensure credible elections in 2023 like in Osun, Ekiti: IGP

Inspector General of Police Usman Baba says the police was working to sustain the improvements recorded in the conduct of security personnel at the Osun, Ekiti and Anambra off-cycle polls ahead of the 2023 general election.

Mr Baba, represented by DCP Basil Idegwu, the head of Police Federal Operation, said this at a security policy dialogue entitled “2022 General Election: Insecurity as a threat to constitutional succession”, organised by Cleen Foundation in partnership with Ford Foundation on Wednesday in Abuja.

“We have received great commendation both from international observers and local observers on the conduct and role of security agencies at the Ekiti and Osun election,” Mr Baba said. “This shows the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure a credible election come 2023.”

He reassured that the police will work with sister security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct of the 2023 general election.

“However, it is imperative to note that in matters of security, every citizen is a stakeholder, and that is why this initiative organised to dialogue is highly commended because all hands must be on deck to ensure that the current insecurity is fought to stand still in the country,” he said.

Mr Baba said using the successes recorded in Edo, Ondo and Anambra elections, the police would ensure the peaceful conduct of the 2023 poll.

He said the police had implemented a series of training for its officers and men to strengthen the security response mechanism,

Gad Peter, Cleen Foundation executive director, urged the police and other security agencies to develop a comprehensive public safety and security roadmap toward the general election.

Mr Peter stated that the dialogue was necessitated by the growth in scale, spread and sophistication of violent threats in the country.

“Security threats such as terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, militancy, separatist agitation, farmer-herdsmen clashes, cultism, and proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW),” the CLEEN boss explained. “As well as threatening comments from some non-state armed groups, among others, have increased tension in the country and remain one of the greatest challenges in the build-up to the 2023 general elections if unaddressed.”
