The early start to the Premier League campaign has seen a few clubs missing players that may be fit in a week or two, and both Crystal Palace and Arsenal are examples of that.

The Gunners have been missing Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe, and Fabio Vieira for a while, with three of that group only returning to training this week.

But Palace are in a similar situation, with head coach Patrick Vieira confirming a few absences for the Arsenal clash.

“Macca [James McArthur] will not be a part of the squad tomorrow,” Vieira said on Thursday.

“Tonks [James Tomkins] has an issue with his calf so won’t get involved tomorrow. Michael [Olise] is a couple of weeks away.”

Of the three, Olise is likely to be the biggest miss for Palace. The 20-year-old appeared in pretty much every game he was fit to play last season, becoming a regular starter under Vieira.

McArthur was also a starter towards the end of the last campaign, when fit, but he and Tomkins spent large parts of the 2021/22 season out of the squad.

As a word of caution, none of the three Palace absentees started when the club thrashed Arsenal 3-0 in this fixture back in April.

The Palace team that achieved that result are largely available to try and do it again, with the exception of Conor Gallagher returning to Chelsea after his loan and Cheikhou Kouyate leaving Palace as a free agent.

Mikel Arteta will hope the summer additions and improvements to his side will help to turn the tide as well.
