The agency in charge of movie and film censorship in Nigeria is the Nigerian National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB). They perform a very good job by selecting the movies that will be aired on the cinemas and television stations.
This agency has also banned some movies from airing in Nigeria due to various reasons like the promotion of homosexuality, nude scenes, vulgarity, and so on.

District 9 was banned from airing in the movie theatres because of its bad portrayal of Nigerians.
Late Dora Akunyili who was the minister of information at that time requested that movie houses should stop showing the movies in their theatres because Nigerians were portrayed as thugs and cannibals
She referred to the part where one of the main villains in the movie called “Obesandjo, tried to consume the arm of another character to possess his power.
The villain’s name was similar to president Obasanjo’s name then. She felt that the movie portrayed Nigerians in an unpleasant light.
The Nigerian National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) under the direction of Alhaji Adedayo Thomas banned cinemas across Nigeria from showing the Marvel superhero movie, “Eternals”
Even though the NFVCB did not state in its circular the reason why it banned cinema operators from showing the movie in their theatres, it was presumed that the homosexual scenes displayed in the movie were the reason for the ban.
Other Arab countries like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar also banned the movies from airing in their theatres due to the display of a gay superhero and his husband who were quite intimate in one of the scenes. The gay couples are the first gay persons in the marvel cinematic universe.
Fifty Shades of Grey
This movie was banned by the NFVCB from Nigerian cinemas for its explicit sexual content. It was also banned in several countries like Kenya and Malaysia for the same reason.
The movie was an adaptation of a number one best-selling novel by EL James. It was very popular when it got released in 2015 and was one of the highest-grossing movies at that time.
Office Christmas Party
The National Film and Video Censors Board NFVCB banned this movie from showing at cinemas nationwide In 2016. This movie Is an American comedy. It is written by Justin Malen and directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck.
The Government of Nigeria banned the film from the Cinema for displaying nudity and sexual content. The movie was considered indecent for Nigerian viewers.
